Class 1 - Miss Verity's Class
Welcome to the class 1 page, please keep checking to find out about all the exciting things we have been getting up to.
I am so proud of all the children throwing themselves right into the reading challenge and it is fantastic to see so many children needing their books changed everyday! Keep up the hard work and thank you for all your support with this!
Our new topic this term is 'The Wild, Wild West' and the children are loving finding out about everything to do with cowboys and Indians!
We have been extremely busy since the beginning of the term, we have been getting messy creating our own Wild West town, role playing life in a tee-pee, making sheriff badges, fork cactus's and dressing up as cowboys. I can't wait to see where the rest of our topic will take us. The children have already decided they want to build their own tee-pee's, make Indian headdresses, learn all about the location of the Wild West and the way of life for the Native people.
The children in EYFS have been very busy using their maths skills to solve number problems and prove their answers. They loved having to scratch off the paint using a coin to find out if they were right.
All the children in Year 1 have shown their fantastic shape knowledge, investigating the properties of 3D shapes, building towers with 3D shapes and sorting them in lots of different ways.
We are loving the change in seasons and have been exploring how the environment is changing. We have planted lots of vegetables and started our own sunflower competition to see who can grow the tallest sunflower. Over the next few weeks we will be logging their progress and measuring their height weekly. We will keep you updated on their progress.
Don't forget that all the children can access Sumdog at home which is an app that can be accessed from mobile phones, tablets and desktop computers. The children can practise lots of maths skills while the programme assesses their learning and meets the needs of the children accordingly.
